Equality is a decision

The Directorate of Fisheries recently received the 2025 Gender Balance Award. This is the third time the Directorate has received the award, having also received it in 2023 and 2024.

This year, 90 companies, 22 public entities, and 16 municipalities received the recognition, a total of 128 entities.

The Gender Balance Scale is a catalyst project by the Association of Women in Business (FKA), and the recognition is awarded to participants who have achieved the project's goal of a 40/60 gender ratio in their executive or top-level management.

We at the Directorate of Fisheries are proud to have achieved our goals in executive management, and overall, the gender ratio at the Directorate is quite balanced. However, there is one aspect of our operations that is exclusively handled by men, which is fisheries surveillance in the field, at sea, and in harbors. Only very few women have held this position over the years, and the Directorate of Fisheries is looking for ways to make the job appeal to more genders than just men. The Directorate of Fisheries will soon be advertising fisheries inspection positions on Starfatorg.is, and we encourage people of all genders to keep an eye out and apply when the time comes.

Gender equality is a task for all of us, and we all need to pull together to make progress in this area.
