Own-account workers and authorised signatories apply for the permit through a digital application system on Ísland.is and the regulations on lumpfish fishing 2023 applies to the fishing.

The Directorate of Fisheries points out that the permit is paid for during the application process and that the permit can be issued immediately or choose a different start date. Upon entry into force, the permit is sent to the the person concerned mailbox at islands.is. This is a change from the previous practice when you had to apply at least a day in advance or on a Friday if fishing was to start on a Monday.
