Held in the spring in Reykjavík, Akureyri, Egilsstaðir and Ísafjörður. Held in the autumn in Reykjavík and Akureyri.

About the test The Icelandic language test for applicants for Icelandic citizenship is held twice a year, in the spring and fall. The test is based on the final objective of the Icelandic language course for foreigners (240 hours), according to the curriculum of the Ministry of Education, which corresponds to competence A2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (Common European Framework of Reference for Language: ). The applicant needs:

  • ability to survive in daily situations in school, work and private life;

  • being able to save yourself in unexpected circumstances

  • having acquired sufficient vocabulary to be able to participate in discussions on familiar topics

  • being able to understand simple conversations between people

  • being able to read short texts in plain language about familiar topics

  • being able to write short texts in simple language about familiar topics

  • ability to identify the main points in photogenic media, television and radio, in the case of familiar content.

The test is divided into four (4) parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speech.

No rating is given, but only reported if the test subject has passed or did NOT pass the minimum requirements.
