Security of digital certificates on Ísland.is
In light of recent news reports about the falsification of information on My Pages on Ísland.is, it is good to keep in mind:

My Pages on Ísland.is are not intended as a form of personal identification. That space is a personalised service environment for individuals where their information can be found that is not intended for any kind of sharing or viewing by external parties.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to clarify this to young people who may not be aware of the kind of information found there. In the Ísland.is mobile app, you can retrieve verifiable digital certificates, such as a driver's license.
They come with a scannable barcode that confirms the certificate and its validity period.
Vendors, and others who need to view people's digital certificates, should always request to see such identification in the Ísland.is mobile app and not accept information from an individual's My Pages. The State Alcohol and Tobacco Company of Iceland (Vínbúðin) have implemented scanning solutions that verify barcodes on the digital certificates. A special solution for scanning digital certificates in elections has also been developed by Digital Iceland for the National Electoral Commission. The Police also have means to verify the digital drivers license.
The Ísland.is mobile app also has a built-in scanner that verifies digital certificates. It can be accessed and used in the app by anyone possessing an Icelandic social security number and electronic ID.
