New Online Service for Mortgage Certificates

It is now possible to request mortgage certificates for up to ten different properties in a single application—whether these relate to real estate, motor vehicles, or ships.

Individuals and authorised representatives of legal entities who possess electronic ID credentials can access and apply for these certificates digitally via the Ísland.is portal.

Required Registration Numbers When Applying for a Mortgage Certificate

• Property numbers from the official property register

• Registration numbers from the vehicle register

• Vessel registration numbers from the ship register

Access to the Certificate

The mortgage certificate is available immediately upon completion of the application process and is also delivered to the applicant’s digital inbox on Ísland.is.

If any property listed requires corrections, the application will trigger a notification within the District Commissioner’s system. Once the review is complete, a message is sent to the applicant, who can then return to the application, finalise the process, and receive the mortgage certificate in their Ísland.is inbox.
