Enrollment in secondary school on Ísland.is

Enrollment for new students from primary school to secondary school took place through the Ísland.is Application System for the first time this year. There are many challenges to overcome in major processes like this one, but the application process went through smoothly and was more efficient than before. The number of students who will start secondary school next fall is the largest to date, with 5,131 students requiring allocation of places, which is 454 more than last year.

The secondary schools were able to accept all new students who applied, and therefore all applications of those who met the admission criteria could be accepted.

81% of the students had a place in a school they had chosen as their first choice, and just 13% as their second choice.

A record number of applications went through the Ísland.is application system in May.

Digital application for a license

Secondary school students who graduate from a health-related program can apply for a digital license to practice at the Directorate of Health. Previously, there were university programs. The programs available are:

• Pharmacists

• Food

• Paramedics

• Dentists

License to practice as a healthcare professional

Information on digital IDs

Those who hold a name card can now access the information digitally on My pages on Ísland.is and in the Ísland.is app, like passport information. Users can also apply digitally. The goal is to improve the accessibility of individuals to their own information.

Mortgage certificates for ships and vehicles

Mortgage book certificates for vessels and vehicles, in addition to real estate. Large users can collect up to 10 certificates together and pay in one application. Previously, there was one certificate per application.

Interactive communication in the Digital Mailbox

Those institutions that have implemented the Ísland.is service system have the advantage of offering bilateral communication through the Digital Mailbox. This means that individuals and companies can choose to answer public matters through the Digital Mailbox. Implementation will begin with full force in August.

Ísland.is’ new payment system

The implementation of the new payment system has now been completed, but the new system is connected to the real-time revenue accounting system of the state. In the future, the aim is to offer more payment methods. The project was led by the Icelandic Financial Administration in collaboration with Digital Iceland.

Digital leasing contracts

HMS now offers digital rental agreements between landlords and renters in the Application System on Ísland.is, along with registration in the HMS rental register. The agreement offers an electronic signature by both parties and is eventually automatically registered in the system. The solution will be in real-life testing this summer with selected parties and will be open to all when the new laws on rentals take effect on 1 September.
