Applications for coastal fishing permits for the 2023 season are now being processed for the first time through the digital application system on Ísland.is.

With this change, service to coastal fishermen is greatly improved, as the system is a user-friendly self-service system and permits are issued immediately if all conditions are met. Previously it could take up to two days to get a permit issued. They were issued manually and the issuance depended on the opening hours of the Directorate of Fisheries.

With the changed and simpler implementation the Directorate of Fisheries places great emphasis on the fact that the data regarding the ownership of the vessel and the company are adequate. The issuance of some permits has been delayed due to data collection. Overall however the processing of applications has gone very well and without significant problems.
