Digital certificates no longer available in phone wallets
Digital certificates will only be published in the Ísland.is app from 27th August 2025.

The issue of digital driving licences by public institutions in Iceland began in the summer of 2020. Digital driving licences were first issued for Android and Apple smartphones. To increase the security and functionality of licences, the change will be made at the end of August that their publication will only be in the Ísland.is app. Likewise, information about licences and the possibilities for renewal will be found on Ísland.is’ My pages.
Public documents that are available digitally are driving licences, machine and ADR rights, firearms licences, hunting cards and disability cards, but in addition you can access digital information on passports, the European Health Insurance Card, parking cards (p-cards) and hopefully also new identity cards issued by the National Registry. Digital certificates only apply in Iceland and therefore it is important that those who intend to drive abroad carry the plastic with them.
Two important dates are ahead for these changes.
1 July 2025 - New SIM cards are no longer issued, but older ones will continue to operate through the summer
August 27, 2025 - Digital certificates removed from phone wallets and accessible only in the Ísland.is app.
