Change to the calculation of accommodation costs July 1st 2026
From July 1st, there will be changes to the calculation of individuals' participation in accommodation costs in residential and nursing facilities, nursing homes or hospitals.

A new calculation rule will then take effect, stating that if an individual in an institution has a spouse who lives in their own home, the amount of the accommodation cost shall be 70% of what they would otherwise have paid according to the calculation rule for the current year. Because of this, the accommodation cost will decrease for around 150 individuals from 1 July. For others, there will be no change in their participation in accommodation costs.
Individuals who begin their stay in an institution before 1 July 2026 will continue to be entitled to a comparison with older calculation rules. In addition, they are entitled to a comparison with the new 70% calculation rule, where applicable.
Those who begin their stay in an institution on or after 1 July 2026 are not entitled to a comparison with older calculation rules. For those individuals, the calculation rule for the current year and the new 70% rule apply, where applicable.
