All medicines that Iceland Health participates in paying for (including medicines for which an individual has received an approved medical certificate) are included in the payment levels. Those medicines that Iceland Health does not participate in paying for are excluded from the payment levels. You can see which medicines are participating in payment by looking at the medicine price lists.

The co-payment of Iceland Health is based on the reference price of the medicinal product, if available (see column farthest to the right in the price list). The reference price is the lowest maximum price of generic medicines. If the reference price is lower than the price of a medicine that a person buys, the individual pays the difference. Those costs are not covered by the payment level.

Lyfjastofnun decides which medicines Iceland Health participates in subsidizing.
