The prices in the example are based on a person paying a lower price, that is:

  • Elderly people aged 67 years and older

  • Disability pensioners

  • Children and young people under the age of 22.

A person buys medicines with co-payment for the first time at the beginning of the new period, where the total price of the medicines is 50,500 ISK.

The first 11,000 ISK is paid by the individual and then 15% of the remaining portion is 50,500 - 11,000 = 39,500 and then 15% of the portion is then 5,925 ISK.

This will make a total of 11,000 + 5,925 = 16,925 ISK to be paid by the individual.

When you make the next purchase of medicine within 12 months of the first purchase of medicine in the new period, medicines are purchased with a payment participation fee of ISK 15,000. A person will then pay part of the fee by 15% or until they have paid ISK 17,900 from the first purchase of medicine.

After that, a person pays 7.5% of the price of the medicines until they have paid 41,000 ISK, after which Iceland Health pays 100% of the payment price of the medicines through the period.
