Payment steps for medicine purchases
In the first step, the individual pays for medicine in full, in the second step he pays 15% of the price of medicines and in the third step he pays 7.5%. When the cost of medicine has reached a certain maximum, he will receive medicine in full paid by Iceland Health for the remainder of the period.
The change to the steps took effect on April 1, 2022.
Payment participation in general:
Step: an individual pays 100% up to 22.000 ISK
Step: a person pays 15% of the price of medicines up to ISK 31.750
Step: A person pays 7.5% of the price of medicines up to 62,000 ISK
The maximum payment per person is ISK 62.000 over a 12-month period.
Elderly 67 years and older, disability pensioners, children and young people under the age of 22
Step: A person pays 100% up to 11,000 ISK
Step: A person pays 15% of the price of medicines up to ISK 17,900
Step: A person pays 7.5% of the price of medicines up to 41.000 ISK
The maximum payment per person is 41,000 ISK over a 12 month period.
