Lumpfish fishing permit

Before the start of fishing trip, the vessel operator must ensure that the boat has the harvest rights that are sufficient for the estimated by-catch for the fishing trip

Fishermen can use the authority provided for in paragraph 9, Article 11 of the Act on fisheries managment to decide that part of the vessel's catch is not counted towards its catch limit, and this refers to the so-called VS catch.

Whereas, under the said rule, the part of the by-catch thus calculated shall not, at any time, amount to more than 5% of the catch of demersal fish which the vessel concerned catches in each fishing year; The authorization is conditional on the catch being kept separate from other catches and being weighed separately and the catch being sold on a recognized auction market.

Thus, each 400 kg landed of a whole lumpfish creates authorization to land 20 kg of quota-bound fish as VS catch.
