A permit is required to becoming a foster parent. Foster permit is granted for up to five years, at which point it is neccessary to renew the permit.
Foster care means that child protection services entrust the care of a child to specific foster parents for at least 3 months. The goal of foster care is to ensure that the child is brought up and cared for within the family as best suits its needs. Application process
Applicants apply for a permit via GEV´s website and submit supporting documentation.
GEV checks to see if necessary information and data is submitted with the application.
A request for a report is sent to the Government Agency for Children and Families.
The Government Agency for Children and Families shall invite the applicant to a course and subsequently submit a report to the GEV.
GEV decides whether the applicant meets the requirements necessary and informs him about the decision.
Supporting documents with application
Consent for the obtaining of criminal records from all members of the household aged 15 or older. The form must be printed and filled in.
A medical certificate from a general practitioner certifying the physical and mental health of the applicant
Tax returns for the past two years. The reports can be accessed electronically on (if new application, last years tax return for renewal applications)
