International protection, rights and application procedure

Application withdrawal

If an applicant for international protection wishes to withdraw their application, they must notify the Directorate of Immigration of that decision. Such notification is usually submitted with the assistance of the applicant's legal representative, although the applicant may also notify the Directorate of Immigration directly.

If an applicant withdraws their application for international protection, they are required to leave Iceland. If they do not, or are unable to do so voluntarily, they may be removed or expelled from the country. If the applicant may be eligible for another type of residence permit in Iceland, they must submit a separate application for that permit.
