If the kilometer status is not registered once per calendar year, from the 1st of January to the 31st of December a negligence fee of ISK 50,000 is collected.

The owner is called to a reading at a certified inspection office. If registration has not been made three months after the fee for non-registration has been imposed, the police may remove the registration plates. The marks are handed back after registration with a certified inspection office has taken place.
