Administration of Occupational Safety and Health: Work protection

Do safety instructions for the sale of poisons have to be in English?

Safety instructions for the sale of toxic substances are only required to be in Icelandic. Original labeling in English, Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish is sufficient when the product volume is less than 125 millilitres and it falls under specific hazard categories, such as categories 1 and 2 related to hazards to the aquatic environment. The same applies if the product is intended solely for use in laboratories, science education in schools, or for other similar purposes where it can reasonably be assumed that the users understand the foreign language labeling.

Further information on safety instructions can be found in the Regulation on the classification, labeling, and packaging of substances and mixtures, and on the website of the Environment Agency of Iceland.
