The National Health Science Fund – Research Grant

The application deadline is 15:00 Icelandic time.

This time, there is a special emphasis on ambitious research in the field of ageing, in line with the priorities of the fund's board and government policy.

Five one-year research grants will be awarded to research groups working on studies related to ageing. The maximum amount for each grant is ISK 15 million, plus up to ISK 5 million for overheads and facilities, meaning the total grant can amount to up to ISK 20 million.

Who can apply?

Project Leaders (PL) and Principal Investigators (PI) for grants from the Health Sciences Fund must have completed research-based studies at an internationally recognised university.

It is a requirement that the Project Leader holds a position or has facilities at an Icelandic university or institution during the proposed grant period. It is only possible to be a Project Leader or Principal Investigator on one application. Members of the Health Sciences Fund's expert panel and board cannot be participants in an application to the fund.

How to apply

Applications and supporting documents are only accepted via the Rannís electronic application system – My Rannís Pages. It is not possible to submit an application unless all mandatory fields have been completed and the necessary supporting documents have been uploaded.

The application and supporting documents must be in English.

The fund's handbook is valid for the year 2026.
