Application takes place in two steps, the dates refer to the first step
Applied research projects aim to generate new knowledge and skills to develop new products, processes, or services, or to achieve significant improvements to existing ones.
Projects must have clear, realistic objectives for applying results.
Funding is available for up to three years, with a maximum grant of ISK 45 million in total (up to ISK 15 million per year).
Funded projects must include one or more of the following:
A defined concept with practical value and anticipated benefits from the research and development work.
Applied research targeting new or improved products, services, or production processes.
Development of technical prototypes to test and enhance technical features.
Who can apply?
The main applicant can only be a university, a public research institution, or a public limited company.
Co-applicants in the project can include companies, universities, research institutions, public companies, and individuals.

Grant recipients must be Icelandic legal entities.
How to apply
Applications are submitted through Rannís’ electronic application system. Each application must include a project description, prepared using the template available in the application system.
It is also permitted to submit additional supporting documents with the application, and applicants have the option to present their idea with a short video (no longer than 5 minutes).

Until the application deadline, Technology Development Fund staff will be available at Gróska on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 14:30 in the Engjarós meeting room. No appointment is necessary (walk-in).
