Grant proposals may be related to research and publication in the areas of Iceland's cartographic and geographic history, or concerning Icelandic books and manuscripts.
The fund’s board makes an annual decision on the grant amounts. In the 2025 allocation, the maximum amount for an individual grant was two million ISK.”

Anyone who has interest in Icelandic cartographic or geographic history, or its books and manuscripts.
How to apply
Proposals are made through Rannís' online application portal. For the project to be considered, the scientific value of the proposed research must be clear, as well as the connection between the projects and the goals of the fund. The project needs to be well defined, and its time frame clear, as well as the applicant's research abilities and capability to perform the work.
