Electric scooters (often called motor scooters, electric scooters, electric scooters, electric scooters) belong to a special small vehicle category and are designed to travel at speeds from 6 to 25 kilometres per hour.

Age limit for electric scooters is 13 years, but also the bike manufacturer's criteria and guidelines shall be followed along with the rental's age limits.

You can drive an electric scooter...

  • on the road or street where speed limit is 30 or lower

  • on a bike path and pavement,

  • across the street on a pedestrian crossing, if possible but only at a walking speed.

Drivers on an electric scooter

  • may not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs

  • are subject to the same rules as bikes regarding safety equipment

  • may not use smart devices or mobile phones while driving

  • who are under the age of 16 always need to wear a helmet

It is recommended that all drivers on electric scooters wear safety helmets, regardless of age.

Electric scooters

  • must have a powerful white light at the front and a red light at the rear. Light must be used when dark.

  • have to have reflections on the wheel, both at the front and the rear

  • may, by law, not be altered to reach speeds of more than 25 kilometres per hour

  • it must be parked in such a way that it does not obstruct the movement of road users, cause discomfort or present a risk of accidents.

  • shall not be parked in the middle of the sidewalk, paths, ramps, entrances to buildings or walk-in crossings.

There is no insurance requirement for these bikes, but owners are encouraged to seek advice from insurance companies regarding liability insurance.

Fines for violations of rules on electric scooters

  • Fines for violations in the amount of 20,000 krónur must be paid.
