Electric car grants
The grant is available for individuals and companies. It is paid to the owner of the car according to the vehicle register.
Payment is made to the bank account registered on My pages on Ísland.is. If no bank account is registered, it must be registered on My pages settings before applying.
By applying for the grant, the applicant accepts the terms and conditions for the service
Eligible cars
The grant covers:
passenger cars with a maximum of 9 passengers (category M1)
vans with a maximum weight of 3.5 tonnes (category N1)
The cars must:
be registered in Iceland after 1 January 2024
cost less than 10 million
be a zero-emission vehicle with no exhaust
It includes:
electric cars that are 100% powered by electricity
hydrogen cars with a fuel cell
Purchases of vehicles in other categories will be supported through special application processes and allocations from a fund organised by Energy Fund.

Application process
Applications will opened here on this page on January 1, 2024.
Grant payment
The grant is paid to the owner of the car within two working days of the application.
Payment is made to the bank account registered on My pages on Ísland.is. If no bank account is registered, it must be registered on My pages settings before applying.
