Educational material for car rental, for driving foreign drivers in Iceland
Safetravel
The Icelandic Transport Authority and Safetravel have joined forces to create a single website for foreign tourists where they can get all the information they need to stay safe on the road in Iceland. The URL is www.safetravel.is/driving and we recommend that foreign drivers are directed to that page and asked to familiarize themselves with the content there.
You can show this QR code to drivers and they will then go directly to the page.

Video about Elfis
Elfis is an Icelandic elf who meets a foreign family on their way around the country and tells them about the unique nature of Icelandic traffic and the Icelandic road system. Below you can see the original video where Elfis goes over most of what foreign drivers need to know. Below that there are two additional videos that deal with winter driving and visibility. Please show these videos to foreign tourists.
Other information materials
The Icelandic Transport Authority has published two leaflets, for summer and winter, which can be distributed to foreign drivers (either printed or electronically). The information is consistent with what is stated on www.safetravel.is/driving.
Nap And Go
Nap And Go is a collaboration between the Icelandic Transport Authority, Visit Reykjanes and SAF, along with several hotels near Keflavík Airport. The idea is to offer accommodation to travelers flying from North America overnight for a few hours early in the morning so that they are better prepared to start driving. More information can be found here and the project's website can be found here.
