Cycling
Bicycles are defined as vehicles and therefore the same laws and regulations apply to riding bikes and cars. Key points to consider:
Before leaving
A protective helmet must be worn during cycling for children under the age of 16.
Cyclists may not use smart devices for cycling.
Road cyclist
Bikes may be used on roadways. However, biking on high-speed and congested roads (if alternatives are available) is not recommended.
A cyclist should generally stay on the right of the far right lane.
You can bike in the middle of the lane with a maximum speed of 30 km/h and take special care at junctions and where the carriageway and paths intersect.
Sidewalk or pedestrian wheel
Sidewalks and footpaths may be used, but the cyclist shall give way to the pedestrians and show them due consideration.
If a bicycle path is parallel to a sidewalk or footpath, bicycle paths shall be used.
If you are riding on a sidewalk or a footpath, you must not be riding at speeds higher than your normal walking speed.
A cyclist needs to give an acoustic signal when approaching pedestrians if they are not likely to notice them.
For drivers of cars
When a vehicle is overtaken by a bicycle or moped, lateral clearance of at least 1,5 metres shall be allowed.
A driver intending to turn across a bike lane shall give priority to cyclists travelling in the lane.
