To apply for a child pension, you need different documents depending on the reason for the application.

Child pension with old-age pension, disability pension, medical- and rehabilitation allowance and disability grant

  • If the child lives with you, you do not need to submit data.

  • In the case of a dual residence for a child, a confirmation from the district commissioner is required or a declaration of (pdf in icelandic) must be submitted.

  • If child support is paid without the involvement of TR, one of the following documents must be submitted:

    • child support agreement showing that you are liable for child support with the child in question,

    • receipts, which prove maintenance, such as payments to a provider with whom a child has legal residence,

    • declaration of a child.

Child pension due to death

  • If the death is confirmed in Registers Iceland, no documents need to be submitted.

  • If the death is not confirmed in Registers Iceland, for example if the death occurred abroad, a death certificate must be submitted.

  • Depending on the circumstances, it may be necessary to submit the child's birth certificate.

Child pension for a child with an unknown father

  • If the child was conceived through assisted fertilization, a confirmation from the company that performed the procedure must be submitted.

  • If paternity has not been established, confirmation of this from the District Commissioner or the courts is required.

Child pension due to imprisonment

  • Confirmation from the Prison and Probation Administration (PPA) regarding the length of the sentence.
