Application for a grant from the fund

The main role of Fiskræktarsjóður is to provide loans and grants for projects that aim to:

• promote fisheries,

• improve fishing facilities,

• support research in rivers and lakes,

• and increase the value of catches from rivers and lakes.

Who can apply for a grant?

Grants from Fiskræktarsjóður are intended for:

• fishing associations

• individuals

• research and university institutions

• other legal entities

Conditions for Grant Awards

• Fiskræktarsjóður requires that funding for the project or the part of the project for which a grant is sought is secured.

• Grants are awarded for one year at a time.

• If the application is for a continuation, a progress report must accompany the grant application.

Applications

Fiskræktarsjóður's application process is electronic.

• Applications open at the end of January each year and the application deadline is until the 1st of March.

• All applications and supporting documents must be submitted electronically through the fund's application portal.

• Applications or documents sent by email or in paper form will not be accepted.

• Once an application has been received, the applicant will receive a confirmation email sent to the registered email address.

Evaluation of applications

When evaluating applications, the following are considered, among other things:

• innovation in research and implementation to best achieve the fund's objectives,

• the applicants' ability to carry out the project, including knowledge, experience and facilities,

• the feasibility of the project, cost and financing plan.

Collaboration with experts and whether the projects serve the public interest are also taken into account.

Allocation

Fiskræktarsjóður is authorised to obtain reviews from the Directorate of Fisheries regarding applications for loans or grants, should it be deemed necessary. Furthermore, the Fund is authorised to decide to pay out allocations in stages according to the progress of projects.
