Forest felling license
General
Written applications for felling licenses must include details regarding:
The proposed location.
Timeframe.
Area size.
The proposed felling method (felling system).
Conditions
To facilitate forest regeneration, Land and Forest Iceland may impose conditions on logging permits, mandating measures to ensure the reforestation of harvested areas.
Regenaration measures must commence within two years of felling.
Supervision
Land and Forest Iceland is entrusted with the task of monitoring the renewal of harvested forests. If the renewal of the forest is not initiated as stipulated within the conditions of the felling permit, Land and Forest Iceland may apply restrictive measures.
Land and Forest Iceland is responsible for overseeing the regeneration of harvested forests. Failure to commence reforestation as specified in the logging permit may result in the Agency's implementation of restrictive measures.
Permanent deforestation
Permanent deforestation requires a permit from the relevant municipality. Land and Forest Iceland will review applications and request necessary data, including an assessment of the carbon reserves within the affected forested area.
Data on permanent deforestation, including details on subsequent land use changes, must be submitted to Land and Forest Iceland.
Furthermore, a report detailing the countermeasures to be implemented, as stipulated in Article 19 of Act No. 33/2019, is required.
