Register a job with the Directorate of Labour

Employers can register job vacancies and reach out to people looking for work in Iceland and in Europe.

Job registration

Jobs are registered on My employers' pages.

When the job has been registered, the job description is reviewed by the consultants at the Directorate of Labour. The employer is asked for additional information if it is missing or if it needs to be adapted.

Communication between counsellors and employers is via My pages of employers.

Mandates to employees

Employers can give their employees permission to access the Employers' My Pages.

Conditions

  • A job is registered on the company ID number. If the Directorate of Labour receives information that activities need to be examined further, and a reason is found, the Directorate has the right to refuse services to a company until those issues have been corrected.

  • Pay for work shall be according to collective agreements.

Publication of jobs

You can choose to:

  • Apply for jobs on the Directorate of Labour's My pages. Individuals on the unemployment register apply directly for jobs there.

  • Apply for jobs in the Directorate of Labor area on Ísland.is. All can apply for the jobs.

  • Job advertisements are made by the European employment agency, EURES. The job advertisement is branded and translated into English. If you want more information about EURES, you can send inquiries to: eures@vmst.is.

Recruitment grant

You can choose to publish a job for all job seekers or only for employees with a work grant.

Advice

The Directorate of Labour plays an important role in connecting job seekers with employers and providing support in their job search. You can get assistance from a job counsellor during the employment process, but the Directorate of Labour is not involved in the execution or planning of job interviews, nor in the conclusion of employment contracts.

Activity in the pursuit of employment

Individuals receiving unemployment benefits have certain obligations. Among them are to attend scheduled job interviews and answer telephone calls from employers.

By registering a job, employers agree to mark on My pages whether:

  • the applicant attended or failed to attend

  • it was easy to reach the person by phone or not.

It is important to make this listing more thorough, as there is a great deal of interest in the job seekers.

All over the country

Aid for employment is available all over the country, for all service centers.
