A dispute may arise between a customer and an inspection body or a re-inspection garage regarding the procedure or outcome of a vehicle inspection.
Procedure
A complaint regarding a vehicle inspection may be submitted to Samgöngustofa in accordance with Article 47 of Regulation No. 414/2021 on vehicle inspections. The procedure is as follows:
The customer must always first direct the complaint to the inspection body and seek a resolution with its management
If the response from the inspection body is not satisfactory the customer may refer the matter to Samgöngustofa
Samgöngustofa only handles complaints concerning mandatory vehicle inspections
The complaint must be submitted within 30 days from the date the inspection result is issued
Samgöngustofa bases its decision on the documents provided with the request and may seek the views of the parties as necessary. In some cases, a repeat inspection of the vehicle may be requested
Possible outcome
Samgöngustofa assesses whether the original inspection result should remain unchanged or be amended
If necessary, the vehicle may need to undergo a new inspection
Samgöngustofa does not rule on or assess any potential entitlement to compensation in individual cases
