System ID numbers are issued for identification of individuals who stay in Iceland for a short term only or other reasons. System ID numbers does not grant any rights.
Individuals who meet the following requirements can apply for a system ID number through Skatturinn.
EEA/EFTA nationals with less than six months paid employment
Spouse of an Icelander or EEA/EFTA citizen who is in paid employment but awaiting the results of a residence permit application
Individuals with taxable financial income in Iceland
Those who stay in Iceland for longer than six months or do not fall under the conditions listed above shall apply directly to the National Registry.
