If there is difference between the Icelandic version and the English, the Icelandic version is valid.
The Icelandic Transport Authority issues certificates of competency for service on board SAR rescue ships in accordance with the Act on Ship Crews and the Regulation on Skippers' and Marine Engineers' Certificates for Serving on board SAR Rescue Vessels.
Requirements for skipper certificates
A skipper of a search and rescue vessel shall have completed small-vessel training in accordance with Regulation No. 944/2020 on Certificates of Competency for masters, deck officers and marine engineer officers serving on board fishing vessels, coast guard vessels and other vessels.
Requirements for marine engineer certificates
A marine engineer on a rescue vessel shall have completed marine engineering training in accordance with Regulation No. 944/2020 on Certificates of Competency for masters, deck officers and marine engineer officers serving on board fishing vessels, coast guard vessels and other vessels.
