The emergency room of HSU Selfoss services a large district and is open 24 hours a day every day of the year.

The entrance on the north side of Vestmannaeyjar Hospital has reopened after being closed for several months due to construction work. During that time, the area outside the entrance was resurfaced with asphalt and utility lines were replaced.

New legislation was passed in Althingi yesterday which entails new criteria for determining annual increases in social insurance.

Parents of chronically ill or severely disabled children who received parental payments in December have been paid a December supplement.

In a bill from the Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, which was presented to Althingi on 10 November, it is proposed that a one-off payment in December be made for old-age pension, disability pension and new medical- and rehabilitation allowance.
