The University of Iceland Research Centre in Northwest Iceland recently held a informative seminar on the work of the Settlement Committees in Iceland in the years 1797-1936 in celebration of the opening of the Settlement Committee Books database on the website of the National Archives of Iceland.

Last week, a presentation was made on the jobs of nurses and occupational therapists, and the presentation was held at the University of Akureyri. The presentation was open to 3rd year nursing students as well as occupational therapy students.

In June 2022, it was agreed to advertise proposals for a coastal area plan for the Westfjords and Eastfjords. The planning proposals and supporting documents were published on the website of the Icelandic National Planning Agency and the presentation period of both proposals was from June 15 th to September 15 th.

The GRÓ Land Restoration Training Programme celebrated the graduation of 23 fellows from its six-month training on 27 August at the Keldnaholt campus of the Agricultural University of Iceland. This is the 17th graduating cohort of GRÓ LRT and the first time the programme has graduated fellows from Kenya, a new GRÓ LRT partner country.

The preparation of a coastal area plan in the Westfjords and Eastfjords is underway on the basis of the Law on the Planning of Marine and Coastal Areas. The Regional Council for each region, appointed by the Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, is responsible for the preparation of the relevant coastal area plan. The planning organisation is responsible for the preparation of the plan under the authority of the regional councils.
