The Directorate of Fisheries has now assessed the following issues regarding the allocation of lumpfish:

  • Transfer of catch performance: Before the allocation takes place, it is permitted to transfer catch performance between vessels if there has been a change in vessel fleet of the operator, such as purchase, sale of vessel or removal from the ship's register. Transfer request must be submitted by January 2nd, 2025.

  • Transfer of quota share and maximum catch share: It is not permitted to transfer quota shares in lumpfish between vessels until 31st of August 2026 unless measures are being taken to bring vessels that are allocated more than 1.5% within the statutory maximum.

  • Home port – regional fishing areas: When quota shares are allocated, the quota share and catch quota are fixed to the fishing area in which the vessel is registered at that point in time. In this regard, the Directorate of Fisheries refers to home port of vessel according to the Icelandic Transport Authority's ship register.

The Directorate of Fisheries will respond to issues that arise as quickly as possible and in such a way that parties are informed and can protect their interests.
