Reporting a crime to the police
Call 112 if you are in danger or if the crime is ongoing.
You can send online reports of the following offences, or suspected offences:
To send a report online you must have electronic ID. Those who do not have electronic ID can report a crime at the police station or calling.
After reporting
The police examine all offences they are made aware of. It depends on the nature of the crime at any given time whether it is investigated further.
A witness
The person who reports an offence, or suspects an offence, has legal status as a witness in the case. The person concerned could be asked to come to a police station for an interview.
A witness should report truthfully and correctly and disclose everything related to the offence. A witness who deliberately tells false information is breaking the law.
Reporting or pressing charges?
When the identity of a person who broke the law is known, or a certain person is suspected, an individual can press charges against that person.
