The Executive Committee examined the situation in Grindavík

Members of the committee examined traces of earthquakes in the town itself with representatives of Civil Defense and met staff who work, among others. to ensure safety in the area and the construction of fortifications near the town.

Preparations for the work of the committee have been started in good cooperation with the municipal authorities in Grindavík and the authorities that have worked on response to the earthquakes. However, the committee will not officially begin work until June 1st. according to the law recently approved by Alþingi.

The executive committee also met yesterday with the town council of Grindavík, the Governing Council's steering group on Grindavík issues, the National Police Commissioner, the Civil Defence, the Icelandic Meteorological Office and representatives of various other administrations. Árni Þór Sigurðsson, Guðný Sverrisdóttir and Gunnar Einarsson will sit on the executive committee and Árni Þór will be the chairman.

Service team established

The government has agreed to establish a new service team to ensure continued integrated and targeted support for the residents of Grindavík. The team will include specialist staff who will provide advice on job search and activity, housing, services, schools, leisure and sports. The service team will report to the implementation committee for ground disturbances in Grindavíkurbær after the committee begins work.
