A large number of applications for sale of residential property in Grindavík
27th March 2024
546 Grindvíkingar have now requested to sell their residential property to the Icelandic Real Estate Association Þórkötlu ehf.
Fasteignafélagið Þórkatla has received 546 applications to buy residential properties in Grindavík. Despite the high number of applications, the company still aims to start the buying process in early April.
Collaborative efforts are ongoing with Digital Iceland and the District Commissioners to prepare for loan payments, obligations relief, and necessary documentation. Many inquiries from Grindavík residents have been addressed, and the analysis and sorting of applications are in progress.
Considering the large number of applications and inquiries, the company wants to share the following information:
Priority for processing applications will generally be based on the application date within the project's system. However, allowances will be made for individuals who faced technical difficulties during initial digital application submissions but later completed their applications.
Requests for exemption from the legal residency requirement will be carefully reviewed. If an exemption request is denied, applicants can appeal the decision.
Applications involving buildings under construction will undergo special inspections in consultation with property owners. Processing for such applications is expected to begin by mid-April.
Discussions have begun with Búmenn hsf. regarding a resolution for residence rights holders. While speeding up the process is a priority, a final solution may not be available until May.
Despite unique aspects, the company's purchase of residential property in Grindavík follows the same regulations as traditional real estate transactions. Efforts will be made to accommodate current property owners' requests for rental or other usage agreements, with details to be finalized and communicated in early April.
Properties are expected to be delivered 1-3 months after purchase agreements are signed, with the first properties likely to be transferred to Þórkatla in early May. The final delivery schedule will be determined in consultation with sellers.
