Ordering a sign language interpreter service

When cancelling an ordered sign language interpretation, an email must be sent to tulkur@shh.is email address with the following information:

• The name of the person being ordered for.

• Date, time and location of interpretation.

Cancellation of booked sign language interpretation must be received before 3 pm on the last working day before the service is to take place.

When sign language interpretation that has been agreed upon for a longer period of time (e.g. an entire semester) and the service has begun, two weeks will be charged after the cancellation is received.

If information about cancellation is not received with the above notice, it will be charged according to the agency's tariff and in accordance with the original order.

If interpretation is required on another day or at another time of the day, the service must be ordered again by sending an email to tulkur@shh.is.

In the case of emergencies after 16:00 on weekdays and at weekends and, a request for sign language interpreters is sent through the emergency hotline 112. They will contact an interpreter through a special call list.

Fees for sign language interpreting services are charged according to the Communication Center's tariff. A minimum of one hour is charged, after that for every half hour.

The Communication Center

• charges entities within the public sector, private parties and individuals for interpretation services according to the tariff.

• is allowed to provide free interpretation services in everyday life, to people who rely on ÍTM for expression and communication

Most of the service provided through Video Remote Interpreting is in connection with everyday life, and is therefor free of charge. Only the individuals that rely on ÍTM for expression and communication can use that service.

People who use ÍTM for communication in their daily lives, have the right to get sign language interpretation in their interaction with official institutions and businesses

The Communication Center for deaf and hard of hearing can also, on the basis of a quarterly budget, provide free interpreting services, including any travelling cost for the interpreters associated with those assignments. When the maximum number of hours for each quarter is reached, this free service is not available until the next quarter.
