Practical flight tests

Applicants for a pilot's license must take a practical flight test with an examiner when the theoretical studies, theoretical tests and practical training have been completed. Pilots who wish to renew and maintain their priviledges are also required to take practical tests. Practical tests are divided into

  • Proficiency Check - Applies to the extension of existing ratings and their renewal. Applicants for proficiency checks contact the examiner themselves or in consultation with the flight school.

  • Skills tests - Applicable to the issue of new licences and ratings and to the renewal of expired ratings, if applicable. Applicants for a skill test are allocated an examiner from the relevant airline school in accordance with the approved procedures.

Student requirements and expectations

The student is expected to have acquired the sills necessary to without help and with the utmost safety

  • perform all necessary tasks to perform the flight safely.

  • carry out everything that a pilot-in-command is required to do and take initiative and make decisions in accordance with the pilot-in-command's responsibilities.

  • tell the examiner what he/she is going to do and why. It can prevent misunderstandings that could possibly cause the examiner to make a wrong judgement.

Students must show that they are able to

  • Operate the aircraft within its limitations.

  • Complete all manoeuvres with smoothness and precision.

  • Excercise good judgment and airmanship.

  • Apply aeronautical knowledge if applicable.

  • Maintain good control of the aircraft at all times in such a manner that the successful outcome of a procedure or manoeuvre is never seriously in doubt.
