Older driving rights

The driving licences can be shown on the back of the driving licences, the categories of driving licences that the person has as well as their validity period. Those who received a driving test (general driving licences) before 01.01.1997 received increased rights with them.

Those who took a driving test before 01.01.1997 have the right to drive

• passenger cars (as such registered in a registration certificate) with a total authorised weight exceeding 3500 kg

• passenger cars (as such registered in a registration certificate) with a trailer/attachment device that is more than 750 kg in total allowable weight

• a light bicycle not designed for driving at a speed greater than 45 km/h on two or three wheels

• a traction machine that can be connected to a trailer/attachment device

Those who took a driving test before 01.06.1993 have the right to drive

• passenger cars in category b

• passenger cars with a trailer/attachment device in category BE

• a light bicycle designed for driving at speeds not exceeding 45 km/h on two or three wheels

• a traction machine that can be connected to a trailer/attachment device

• a vehicle made for 8 or less passengers plus the driver, with a total authorized weight of more than 3500 kg but not more than 7500 kg, which can be connected to a trailer/attachment device with a total authorized weight of more than 750 kg. The total authorized weight of a bus may not exceed 12,000 kg.

• car for a load of up to 5000 kg (5 tonnes of cargo weight allowance)

Those who took a driving test before 01.03 1988 have the right to drive

• passenger cars in category b

• passenger cars with a trailer/attachment device in categeroy BE

• a light bicycle not designed for driving at a speed greater than 45 km/h on two or three wheels

• a traction machine that can be connected to a trailer/attachment device

• a vehicle made for 8 or less passengers plus the driver, with a total authorized weight of more than 3500 kg but not more than 7500 kg, which can be connected to a trailer/attachment device with a total authorized weight of more than 750 kg. The total authorized weight of a bus may not exceed 12,000 kg.

• car for a load of up to 5000 kg (5 tonnes of cargo weight allowance)

• a vehicle of a length of not more than 8 metres and of a capacity of 16 or less passengers, plus the driver, which may be connected to a trailer/attachment device of a total authorized weight of more than 750 kg

Those who took a driving test before 12.04.1960 have the right to drive

• passenger cars in category B

• passenger cars with a trailer/attachment device in category BE

• a light bicycle not designed for driving at a speed greater than 45 km/h on two or three wheels

• a traction machine that can be connected to a trailer/attachment device

• a vehicle made for 8 or less passengers plus the driver, with a total authorized weight of more than 3500 kg but not more than 7500 kg, which can be connected to a trailer/attachment device with a total authorized weight of more than 750 kg. The total authorized weight of a bus may not exceed 12,000 kg.

Those who took a driving test before 01.07.1958 have the right to drive
