Ban on drone flights 28-31 October

Due to the Nordic Council meeting held in Reykjavík from 28 to 31 October 2024, the Icelandic Transport Authority has, at the request of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, prohibited drone flights at three locations in Iceland as follows.

10th October 2024

Courses for vehicle agents are scheduled for October 29th

Courses for vehicle agents A, B and C are scheduled for October 29th at The Icelandic Transport Authority, Ármúli 2. The last day to register is Sunday, October 27th.

Temporary suspension of the production of tachograph cards

The production of tachograph cards occurs abroad and will be transferred between countries on 19 September. Therefore, the output of the cards will be suspended for 4-6 weeks.

Flight rules near volcanic eruption

Given the occasion, the Icelandic Transport Authority wants to reaffirm the rules that apply to drone flights and aircraft that are intended to ensure the separation of drones and other aircraft. It is essential that all parties follow the rules, both the specific rules for the eruption area and the general rules.

Drone ban above 60 meters above ground – updated 29 August 2024

Due to a volcanic eruption and necessary emergency and investigative flights, the Icelandic Transport Authority has, at the request of the Civil Protection Coordination Centre on behalf of the Icelandic police in Suðurnes, prohibited drone flights over 60 meters above ground. The ban is valid until midnight 23 September 2024.
