On Monday 4 March, the Icelandic Transport Authority received certification for the 5th green step. It is the final step in the Green Step Program, which is for government agencies that want to reduce the negative environmental impact of their activities.

The fifth step is an environmental management system to manage the conditions of the first step. Procedures and work descriptions that support environmental management have been published in the quality system of the Icelandic Transport Authority.

The environment is a constant project and the Icelandic Transport Authority has ambitions for continued improvements in this area. Next on the agenda is an internal audit of compliance with previous steps and annual green accounts to the Environment Agency of Iceland. Work will continue to promote environmentally friendly operations in the operations and to increase environmental awareness among staff.
