Small Boat Fishermen’s Spring Meeting Held for the First Time on 9 April 2026

31st March 2026

On Thursday, 9 April 2026, the National Association of Small Boat Owners, the Icelandic Transport Authority and the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE‑SAR) will jointly host a spring meeting for small boat fishermen focusing on maritime safety. This is the first time a meeting of this kind is being held.

The meeting will take place online, ensuring that small boat fishermen from across the country can follow the proceedings. The meeting will be broadcast from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. In parallel with the live broadcast, local ICE‑SAR units will host open gatherings at 16 locations nationwide, where fishermen from the surrounding areas can come together, enjoy refreshments and watch the meeting collectively.

Information on the programme, locations, streaming link and other details related to the meeting can be found here.

During the meeting, representatives from the Icelandic Transport Authority, the Seafarers’ Safety Training School and the Icelandic Coast Guard will address key issues related to seafarer safety, particularly as the start of the coastal fishing season approaches. Special emphasis will be placed on safety related to the stowage of inflatable life rafts on board vessels. In addition, a new brochure and a safety awareness video, developed jointly by ICE‑SAR and the Icelandic Transport Authority, will be presented.

The meeting is open to everyone with an interest in seafarer safety, and small boat fishermen are especially encouraged to participate and follow the discussion.
