As of June 1, Guðmundur Sigurðsson is the state liaison officer for Iceland at Eurocontol, for the next two years. The liaison officer's role is to strengthen relations and contribute to Iceland's effective membership work, i.e. cooperation and participation in work groups. Also, aiming to improve knowledge of Eurocontrol's activities and the flow of information to and from Icelandic stakeholders.

Guðmundur Sigurðsson is the former head of ATC Communications at Isavia ANS.

Eurocontrol is an intergovernmental organization that supports aviation and air navigation in Europe. Iceland's integration agreement with Eurocontrol was signed in autumn 2022, but the country gains full membership from 1 January 2025.

Iceland's membership of Eurocontrol offers many benefits for safe air transport. These include central flow management of air traffic for the pan-European airspace, access to systems and technical solutions, as well as training and support for various aspects of aviation.
