The 1st of July 2023 is a decade since the first day of operation of the Icelandic Transport Authority. At the core of the operation is transportation safety. Surveillance, registration of vehicles, preparation of laws and regulations, safety plans, analysis of incidents, prevention and education are among the activities that form the framework for safe transportation. The scale of the operations goes hand in hand with the ever-changing needs of society, but the objectives should always be progress between years and that Iceland's position is at least as good as that of the leading nations.

Establishing a safety policy brings results, increases awareness and improves transport culture. A lot has been achieved, but we can always do better and all must be together on that path.
