Several employees of the Communication Centre went to Slovenia on the day. The aim of the trip was twofold; to attend the conference Everything is in our hands and to participate in the creation of a global organisation of sign language institutions. The Ministry of Culture and Commerce sponsored the trip, and Kristín Lena Þorvaldsdóttir, director and Uldis Ozols, project manager in sign language teaching, spoke about the Communication Centre at the conference. The conference’s speakers discussed the services provided by sign language institutions around the world. The conference clearly showed that Iceland is ahead of most countries when it comes to sign language services, whether in terms of teaching, interpretation or consulting. Many opportunities for Iceland merged, such as in the field of dictionary creation and curriculum development, and the conference as this are crucial to finding the right partners for such projects. At the end of the conference, a working group of the Association of Sign Language Institutions was formed and Iceland took a seat on it.
