Today, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day, Yellow September, a collaborative project of institutions and organizations working together on mental well-being and suicide prevention. The goal of Yellow September is to raise awareness about the importance of mental health promotion and suicide prevention 💛

The Mental Health Train (Geðlestin) will host various events around the country in September. The national organization Geðhjálp will also travel across Iceland, offering conversations about mental well-being and mental health, combined with music and joy.

At the lunchtime meeting, Geðhjálp will present various mental health indicators (metrics), address the importance of mental health promotion, ways to reduce stigma, and possible measures to strengthen prevention. The goal is also to have an open dialogue with locals about their concerns and priorities regarding mental health and well-being.

The evening program is structured a little differently. It begins with a short introduction to Geðhjálp and its work. After that, the focus will be on the importance of regular mental health promotion throughout life, discussing various approaches. Then, an individual will share their personal experience with mental health challenges, how recovery was achieved, and which tools proved most helpful. Following the testimonial, there will be a discussion, and finally, the musicians Emmsjé Gauti and Þormóður will take the stage to perform a few songs, emphasizing that mental health promotion is also about joy and fun. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
