Vísindavaka 2026
12th October 2026
Akureyri Hospital (SAk), in collaboration with the University of Akureyri (HA), recently took part in Vísindavaka, Iceland’s annual celebration of science.

At the institutions’ shared exhibition space, visitors had the opportunity to learn about their work. SAk’s ambulance attracted considerable attention, and visitors were invited to explore its interior. They could also practise administering “medicine” to a baby training doll, listen to a training mannequin’s breathing through a stethoscope, and learn about a project involving the registration of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Representing SAk were Jón G. Knutsen, Hilda Jana Gísladóttir, Ásta Júlía Aðalsteinsdóttir and Þorbjörg Katrín Davíðsdóttir, who all agreed that the day had been a success.
