Þórhalla Sigurðardóttir receives an encouragement grant from the SAk Research Council

12th October 2026

At SAk Science Day, the Research Council presented this year’s encouragement grant to Þórhalla Sigurðardóttir in recognition of her outstanding work on her doctoral research.

The grant is intended for staff at Akureyri Hospital (SAk) who pursue studies and conduct research alongside their work. When assessing applications, the Research Council considers factors including the project’s progress and scope, as well as the applicant’s research activity.

Þórhalla receives the grant for her doctoral project, Exploring Transformative Learning and Authenticity in Simulation-Based Learning for Nursing Students, which examines transformative learning and authenticity in simulation-based nursing education.

Through the grant, the Research Council aims to support the continued development of the project, including participation in international conferences and increased collaboration with partners in Iceland and abroad.

On the same occasion, the Research Council highlighted the valuable contributions of other staff members to research and quality improvement at SAk. Þóra Katrín Erlendsdóttir, Sóley Smáradóttir, Katrín Eva Reykjalín and Dóra Björk Jóhannsdóttir received small gifts from the Council in recognition of their contributions.

The Research Council warmly congratulates Þórhalla on receiving the grant and thanks all staff members who contribute to the hospital’s thriving research and quality improvement work.
