30th October 2024
In October, the annual conference was held by the Association of Emergency Medical Practitioners in Europe in Copenhagen. The conference was very well attended and a total of 86 people from Iceland; doctors, nurses and emergency medical technician. Two emergency doctors and four nurses from SAk’s ER attended the conference.
Elsa Desmond, a doctor at the ER in SAk, had a poster entitled: When blood’s not thicker than water – An interesting case with Pancytopenia.
Bergþór Steinn Jónsson, emergency physician and pediatric emergency physician at the SAk, held four lecturers at the conference:
I have an owie, can you help me? Diagnosis and management of the pediatric trauma patient
Small patients with big problems! Are you able to recognize and manage neonatal emergencies in the ED
Should we subspecialize? Advantages and challenges associated with subspecializing or developing expertise in a particular field of emergency medicine
Conflict or Companionship? Tips and tricks for communicating effectively with consulting specialties and advocating for your patient's best interest
“Conferences like these provide an opportunity to share our experiences and learn from others so that quality can be guaranteed and innovations introduced in emergency care. Environmental issues and how emergency care can become more environmentally friendly were among the topics highlighted. Nordic co-operation was also highlighted and it was clear that specialized emergency medicine training in collaboration between Landspítali and SAk is a top priority and in many ways a model for other Nordic countries,” said Bergþór Steinn Jónsson.
